I have a self imposed halt on any and all major purchases for myself during the holiday shopping season. This is to ensure that I have enough cash to buy everyone else enough gifts, and also prevents me from buying something that a loved one is perhaps considering getting for me - preventing a lot of potential embarrassment and hassle.
